Writing wasn’t a talent I was born with. In fact, before I left my career as a mechanical engineer to become a writer, I struggled with writing. I couldn’t even put a sentence together. My brain was wired for mathematical equations not for creative writing. But I loved movies and novels. The art of movie making and storytelling fascinated me. I wanted to join the ranks of these amazing people who created them. I had this unstoppable urge to write screenplays. Many stories were vivid in my mind; I just didn’t know how or where to start. The only way to get them out of my mind and put them down on paper was to learn what it takes to become a writer ـــ to learn writing from scratch.
I studied for five years. I went back to college to study writing, creative and screenplay writing. I trained for three years with a fiction writing coach, during which and up to this day, I am working to improve my craft. I practice writing daily. But if I haven’t taken that first step to learn the process, these stories would have still been stuck in my mind, waiting to be born.
If you are like me, fifteen years ago, and you have a dream to write a novel and to take your writing to the next level, but don’t know how to make it happen, I hear you. Trust me. I know what it takes to write a novel or a screenplay. I’ve been there.
This course is for aspiring writers. The material provided will not only help you to understand how a novel is created and introduce you to the elements of fiction writing, you will learn the necessary tools and knowledge to write a novel as well. We will do all that together as I walk you step by step through the novel writing process. Areas covered will include basic skills, tips and techniques to improve your creative writing. The course will become a stepping stone towards fulfilling your novel writing dreams.
A story is not merely a sequence of events that happen to people, but a journey the characters take us along with them.
Characters are an integral element of the story. They are its driving force. Characters create conflict. Conflict creates plots. You don’t want characters to live a conflict free life. The story is told from the POV of the characters, and you don’t want a boring person to tell the story.
What is Novel Outlining? And Why You Need to Outline Your Novel?
Broadly speaking, Outlining is brainstorming the entire story before you actually start writing it. The outline is the zero draft. It’s everything you need to know about your story. It’s where you throw your thoughts and ideas, and where you organize them.
Outlining is an important step in planning and setting the stage for writing your novel.
